Where are we?
PML Baptist Church is about 5 minutes from Junction 5 of the M62. It lies about half way down Page Moss Lane, a road linking Pilch Lane with Prescot Road (see map). It is actually on the Knowsley boundary and we consider our "parish" to be the housing estates on either side of Page Moss Lane. The Liverpool side is an estate of what was largely council houses and flats and still shares many of the problems associated with such areas. The Roby (Knowsley) side is typical of late 1930s private housing: small three bedroomed semi-detached houses.
Affiliations
We are an Evangelical Baptist Church with "conservatively charismatic" leanings. We believe that Jesus Christ is active in those who put their faith in him and that he is as relevant to the world today as he was to the Roman world of the early centuries. We are convinced that the heart of Christianity is a personal encounter with the risen Jesus which should result in a personal transformation of life and lifestyle. Although this has to be a personal experience, it must result in a commitment to the community of faith (both the local church and the wider body of Christians) and has a natural consequence of reaching out to the world around us with both caring concern and the message of God's good news for all people.
PML Baptist church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ("the BU"). It was founded over 50 years ago by Richmond Baptist Church (which is still active in Anfield) and has strong, historical links with the BU.
Our evangelical basis is demonstrated in our membership of the Evangelical Alliance (EA). In this we align ourselves with churches of all denominations that see the personal encounter with Christ and salvation through faith as the core of what it means to be Christian. We believe the Bible to be uniquely God's message to His people. (See the Evangelical Alliance Basis of Faith.)
Leadership and organisation
We have been without a full-time minister since 1987. We function by a strong team of deacons and elders who work well together. We firmly believe in the ministry (the priesthood) of all believers and we are wary of too great a dependance on the church leaders, which can result in spiritual immaturity. Still, since people like to know who is likely to be leading worship or answering their questions, come and meet the leaders.
